BLOG #9: Space and Time
THE BREAK
Pause. It is a massive element in my practice - not only in my art, but in my life. I’ve spent a great deal of time as a hermit. I won't say it’s the right path for everyone, but it was the right one for me. However, I’ll be the first to admit that I may have overindulged in it. Perhaps visiting the other side is the most natural way forward.
And so, here I am, trying to step into the light. Or rather, inching my way out - sheepishly and painstakingly slow. But for practicality's sake, I have to take the leap and put a halt to this stagnation by setting a date. The dreaded deadline. A D-Day.
NOW OR NEVER
It has been decided: next month is the month. A week from now, I will slam the accelerator and put things in motion, giving form to what I’ve pre-planned. Things were never out of thought, but they were out of plan. Always. Yet, because of the pause, I was able to plan. And because I planned, I am able to move forward with my head on my shoulders.
I am profoundly grateful for the pauses, the silence, and the endless wandering. I am grateful for the hours spent staring at ceilings, at distant horizons, and into the nothingness that allowed my imagination to thrive. Through these pauses, I have come to understand that creativity requires time. Puzzle pieces reveal themselves over years; they can never be forced. Eventually, things click into place. That is why it’s best to have several projects moving at once, when things aren't clear on one, you can simply pivot to whatever else is ripe for the taking.
So, thank you, time. You have done me well, for now.
