Working with earth pigments has always been something I've endeavored to do as I feel, it gives me that connection with the ancient people, even when I'm using synthetic ones.  There's definitely a fascination with the ancient world and cultures that make me want to look into it for inspiration, and doing something as simple as using earth pigments, giving me a feel for how it was before.
